New Mexican Odessy

Sorry I haven't posted for a while. I've been busy with with the walking, sniffing, and eating of stuff I find on the ground. Not to mention the nudging. So lemme tell you about New Mexico...

Texas was pretty impressive but things really started to change once we got to the "Enchanted State", or the "State of Enchanment" or whatever it is. Check it out:

or even...

We had just come through a rain storm in Texas. A little scary with the wind and the heavy downpour. But it made for an impressive sunset...

and a rainbow!

Here's my view out the back of the car:

nice butte!

The road goes on...

and on...

So we stopped along historic route 66 at this little church and post office.

And theer were chickens there! Tasty chickens walking around on unfried legs!!

Look at Daisy checking out the chickens! She's leasrned something from me at least!

Sadley we had to leave the chickens behind and hit the road again. But we shouted "CHICKKEN BONE!! CHICKEN BONE!!" all the way tp Arizona.

We spent the night at a hotel in Santa Rosa on old Route 66. It was sweet. Great diner nearby with nifty old cars. I have a postcard somewhere. I'll scan it in at some point.

So it was back on the road where they have a million billboards warning you of an upcoming crappy gift shop.

We saw this thing outside of Albaqurque...

And we ran into some indians outside a crappy gift shop. hey, I'm a dog, I know crap.

I reckon there were indians in them hills...

But before we knew it, we were in Arizona.

Finally, after all this time in the car we got to see some real cactuseseses...es. We stayed with Eric's mom and dad in Tuscon. Apparently they have coyotes there. I wasn't too keen on meeting a coyote and Daisy didn't even want to hear about it. it was fun, but a little freaky.

More stuff from arizona...

Pheonix was kind of icky...

But the sitesin te desert were pretty...

And i could tell we were headed for something big...

Lunch maybe?

Nope...Califormia!!

Cue the Beach Boys...

I found the truck Daisy must have fallen off of...;)

Crazy! Wind power!

We pulled into a hotel that evening in Ontario California. Daisy just got the joke about the truck...

And the next morning we headed into Los Angeles. teher was a lot of cheering in the car even though the road was bumpy and really really big!

ooooh! Hollywood!

oooooh! West Hollywood!!

The trees here are nuts!! Damn! Makes me wanna go walkies just thinking about them!

By this time I'd pretty much figured out that this would be our new home. I still have to explain it to Daisy every day though. We pulled into this street and I knew we were there!

After several days of unpacking we were STILL living out of boxes...

Here I am explaining the whole thing to Daisy for the 1,000th time.

She's such an airhead, she'll really fit in here!

It's homey though. I like it in spite of all the boxes!

But I gotta tell ya. That trip wore me out.

So, let's compare. here's the view from our old place in DC right before the trip:

and here's the view from our new place...

not too shabby!!

That's the end of the trip. It was quite amazing, a lot of stuff this old dog has never seen before. I'm liking the warm weather and some of the dogs in the new neighborhood aren't too bad. I do miss my friend though...Drop me a line or come crash with us in Cali!!

The Long Drive

Well, I'll tell you what, when you're right you're right! I knew something was up but I had know idea how big the something would be!

It all started a couple weeks ago when they took me and Daisy out to club pet, our little camp in Virginia. Now that I've gotten used to the plce from previous visits, I really like it. This time me and Daisy shared a room. For a couple of days we hung out with other dogs and barked a lot. Dinner was served at a more reasonable hour, which I like. Daisy got to talk to other dogs and she made some friends.

Then it started snowing and snowing. An then on March first Eric and Zoe showed up with our new car and it was pulling a trailer. I felt this must be some kind of sign. here are some pictures from that morning:

That's us outside Club Pet.

OK, so then Daisy and I got in the back seat and we started driving...

and driving...

and we didn't know what was going on.

We drove all day through all of Virginia and then in to Tenessee. I was starting to think we weren't going back to DC! We stopped that night in Knoxville and we stayed in a hotel. The hotel was like club pet but they let people stay their too. It was disconcerting but then we got dinner.

The next day we drove through Tennessee. We went through Nashville, which Daisy liked (she's all country and stuff).

Then we went through Memphis, which I liked, because I love the Blues (naturally).

Look, a pyramid in Memphis!

Then we crossed the Mississippi river...

into Arkasas...

And none of us like Arkansas. Very boring, not very sceninc.

I got caught up on my napping.

We stayed in Russellville in Arkansas. That's all I have to say about Russellville.

The next day we drove into Oaklahoma. This sign makes Zoe sing for some reason...

Oklahoma is more flat stuff, but I like the blue sky.

Oklahoma city was bumpy and none of us enjoyed driving through it. Espescially with that stupid trailer attached to the car. Who's idea was that?

Daisy started singing "I've Been Everywhere" like Johnny Cash but she only knows the names of, like, three places, so she just kept singing them over and over again. "Oklahoma City, Nashville, Honolulu! Oklahoma City, Nashville, Honolulu! Oklahoma City, Nashville, Honolulu! Oklahoma City, Nashville, Honolulu!" Jeez, that was annoying.

Then we got to Texas...

Which was big and our car got hit by a real tumbleweed!!

And they had big cowboy signs.

OK, you can't see the sign but I like the picture.

Apparently Waffles are the cash crop of every freakin's state in the Union. We saw these Waffle Houses everywhere. Not that I mind, I could always go for a waffle!

Daisy was getting tired of being in the car. What a baby!

Then we got to New Mexico which is awesome! I'll write more about that tomorrow. I have A LOT of pictures of New mexico.

Sweet Ride!

Well, much has happened in the last week. On monday Daisy and I went for a ride in this car which smelled awfully new to me. Check out the pictures I took! I had a blast, I love cars. Daisy looked like she was going to loose her lunch the whole time. She doesn't like cars. i'm guessing she prefers trucks, what a country bumpkin! I'm looking forward to another car ride soon.

We went to the vet because my back legs are hurting me. I guess I'm getting old. I have yet another new pill I have to take every day. As long as it comes with peanut butter, I don't mind.

People keep petting me in the hallway which normally i don't mind. This one guy was really bugging me last night so I nearly bit his hand off. What a jerk. I alos go into a fight with another dog who was tied up outside the store. Jerk.

Alot of junk is dissappearing from the apartment. Alot of boxes are appearing. Something is definitely up.

I took a picture of daisy doing what she does best...loafing. Actually her primary talents are crying and destroying things. Anyways, look how she's hogging our new fleecey thing!

more curious

So last weekend my Mom disappeared and then reappeared and there was all kinds of talk going on between her and my dad. I got half of a frosted cookie on Monday night and boy was it good!

Daisy keeps biting Mom which I'm not crazy about, I keep telling her to cut it out but then she just stares at me. Kids!

I found some pictures of us in our favorite spots. Hope you like them!

Here's me in my favorite spot: the kitchen!

Here's me on the couch with a big bone, I wonder what happened to that thing?

Here's Daisy lounging taking up my spot on the couch. The couch is in bad shape, guess who's fault that is? **cough cough Daisy cough**

Here's Daisy dressed as a flower for Halloween. She has her moments!

Monday Aftrenoon

OK, I admit it. it was a grumpy weekend for me but I'm over it now. I like to joke that Eic and Zoe are my servants but they are really my best friends. I'm not sure why they picked me but I'm gald they did. I like Daisy too but she wants to play all the time and I'm not always up for it.

Things at the apartment are a little nervy. I know they are up to something, I hope its something good! Things are best when I can just rest my chin on their legs and hang out. They came home with a big bag of food last night, that's always good. The sun is shining and its warmer out, but I do miss the snow. It was tasty.

what are we doin'?

i was just sittin' in the sun and then blue started clicking and clacking over at the 'puter so i had to go over and see what she was sayin' and i found out she thinks i cry alot but i really don't and so then i had to try typing to tell my side of the story and guess what? i can type pretty fast i guess that's because i got four paws. some of what she said is true (she does get grumpy) and some of it isn't i mean i think the elevator thingy is kind of exciting because sometimes we get to see my friend sebastian or my friend ginger or my friend king or my friend buster (come to think of it i haven't seen buster in a while and i heard ginger isn't here anymore) or my sort-of friend galahad or the hairy dog who likes to bark at us (an' boy is that funny) and then we get to go OUTSIDE! i love bein' outside even though sometimes it gets cold and my paws get wet but my mom says that we're goin' someplace warm soon and so i just have to deal with it for now. well, i'm missin' some prime napping time right now so i'm goin' to go climb back on the couch but i just had to tell you all what's really goin' on over here and boy am i glad i can type so i'll see you all laters.

Saturday Afternoon

Sorry about my grumpieness this morning. I got to go on a longer walk this afternoon and take a nap so I'm feeling a little better. My back legs are stiff though and I keep slipping around on the floor when I get off the couch. I wish they would get some rugs, but then again I guess I can't blame them for not having rugs considering how often I don't make it to that outside. Hey, I have to go down 6 floors in an elevator! And that's after they put a leash on me, and get their coats, and all their stuff, AND my roommate. Not only that but it takes, like a solid hour of constant nudging before they figure out that I might explode if they don't take me out RIGHT NOW!

Ok I'm grumpy again.

Where's that bone?

Life is like this: Some days you get treats for doing nothing, other days they wouldn't hand you a scrap even if you played a friggin' Brahms Concerto on crytsal glasses with your hind paws! That's life.

You know what would be nice? A yard. A yard would be nice. I could have my own spot to poop in, my own patch of grass for when my stomach hurts. Daisy can keep to her side, she can have all the sun she wants.

Daisy is not so bad but her crying drives me crazy, and she loves to stare at me when i'm eating, and she's a spaz on the leash, and she keeps running away, and she gets all drooly on the bones, and she's scared of everything. Life was sweet when I was an only dog.

I'm going for a nap.

Well, that's just great

I'm always the last to know. I've started to notice that my den is filling up with boxes and that my servants are filling these things with their non-food junk. It took me a while to catch on because, well, it's not food so what do I care? Anyways. this can mean only one thing. And I have no idea what that one thing is. Maybe they are getting new non-food stuff? Maybe they are trading in their non-food for more food! that would be great. Damn, now I'm hungry. Maybe I'll go nudge them, it must be near dinner time.

When I figure out what's going on I'll write it down. I tend to forget stuff. I'm just getting over an illness that makes me kind of dizzy. I hate when that happens. It usually lasts a week and it makes it hard for me to walk. Sometimes I can't even grab treats!

I'll write more later. they just took my roommate out for a walk, probably gave her the good food. She's so spoiled! Youth is wasted on the young. My roommate is SO dumb she just runs up to other dogs!! She's going to get her nose bitten off one of these days. She ran away twice! What kind of fool runs away from a place where they give you food and a bed? Drives me crazy. Oh she's back and now she's crying. Oyve!

I'm thirsty. I'm going to go lay on the couch and lick my feet.

PS Here's a picture of me from last Halloween. They made me look ridiculous but I got some good treats out of it so I didn't mind.
